Bullitt County G/T Program
Bullitt County Public Schools supports and promotes a district-wide program
for the gifted and talented students in grades K-12. Students are identified the
following categories: general intellectual aptitude, specific academic aptitude,
creative or divergent thinking, psychosocial or leadership, and visual or
performing arts.
The Bullitt County Public School System formally identifies students in
grades one through twelve. Students in grades Kindergartner through grade three
are informally identified.
Identification Procedures
In the primary program, each elementary school will create a talent pool
which represents that group of students who process demonstrated or potential
abilities to perform at an exceptionally high level in one or more of the five
areas of giftedness as defined in KRS 157.2000.
Teachers will complete an assessment of the student’s strength in each of the
identified area(s) of giftedness and the behavioral checklist to compliment the
identified area(s)
of giftedness.
The regular classroom teacher and the gifted education teacher will work
together to provide services to meet the needs, interest and abilities of the
identified student.
Formal identification begins in grades four through twelve.
For initial placement of gifted services the classroom teacher will complete
an assessment of the student’s strengths in each of the identified area(s) of
giftedness referred and the behavioral checklist that corresponds to the area
referred. A teacher may at any time refer a fourth-twelfth grade student for
formal placement. Students in the Primary Talent Pool will automatically be
reviewed for formal placement.
Based on the information gathered, a placement committee will determine those
students who are eligible for services. Students may be serviced by a variety of
options from pull-out, classroom enrichment, differentiation, counseling,
Advance Placement courses, etc.
The school shall differentiate, replace, supplement, or modify curricula to
facilitate high level attainment of the learning goals established in KRA
158.6451 and to assist students identified and diagnosed as gifted and talented
to further develop their individual interest, needs and abilities.
Grievances
Within the procedure provided for the Gifted and Talented student, a
situation may arise when parent, student or teacher may have a concern regarding
the appropriate and adequate service made available to the student. In this
case, a grievance may be files detailing the concern where appropriate and
adequate services are lacking in compliance with KRS 157.200
